Sputtering Components releases recorded presentation “Introduction to Rotary Cathodes.”

Sputtering Components announces the second informative, recorded presentation on the rotary cathode sputtering, which was released on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. “Rotary Cathodes 101: Introduction to Rotary Cathodes” was written and recorded by Patrick Morse, Senior Applications and Development Engineer at SCI. 

This session is appropriate for those who know the basics of sputtering but want to learn more about rotary technology. If you are thinking of switching to rotaries from planar cathodes or you are relatively new to the industry, this presentation, along with our original session, “Sputtering with Rotary Cathodes 101,” will be helpful in understanding this technology. 

This session, the second in a series of four educational presentations sponsored by SCI, highlights the technology of the rotary style end block. Mechanical components are featured as they relate to the function of the cathode technology. Future presentations will include details of the role magnetics plays, outboard supports, gas manifolds, and anodes. Patrick will also examine the primary differences between planar and rotary cathodes, which include target material volume, target erosion grooves, sputter deposition profiles, target cooling, target changes, and return on investment.
